Job Description

Neurosurgery High Observation Unit – Junior Sister/Charge Nurse Support

Hull University Teaching Hospitals

The Neurosciences Care Group is seeking an exceptional individual to join our nursing leadership team in the Neurosurgery High Observation Unit at Hull Royal Infirmary. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and supportive team providing specialist spinal and cranial procedures for patients across Hull, East Yorkshire, and surrounding areas.

As a self-motivated and skilled nurse, you will have the clinical expertise and decision-making abilities necessary to provide high-quality care. In this role, you will support the Charge Nurse and work closely with the nursing team to deliver direct, patient-centered care. In the absence of the Charge Nurse, you will step into a leadership role, ensuring a seamless and positive patient experience, while maintaining high standards of care. The position will also involve rotating every 12 months to the Major Trauma Ward, where you will provide support and clinical supervision to junior staff.

While prior experience in Neurosurgery is desirable, we are looking for candidates who are passionate about learning and developing new skills within this specialty. You will be supported by a highly experienced Neurosurgical team, and a comprehensive training package will be provided to help you enhance both your clinical and managerial capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Charge Nurse in providing effective nursing leadership and managing a team of nurses.
  • Ensure that the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct is adhered to and that the nursing care provided meets the highest standards.
  • Work closely with the Charge Nurse and multidisciplinary team to deliver individualized patient care and enhance the patient experience.
  • Rotate to the Major Trauma Ward every 12 months, offering support and clinical supervision to junior staff.
  • Provide day, night, weekend, and bank holiday cover on a rotational basis.
