About the Role
The University of Reading is looking for a detail-oriented and analytical professional to join its Human Resources team as a Workforce Data & MI Analyst.
This role sits at the heart of how the university understands and uses workforce data. You will support the development of modern reporting systems and dashboards, helping leaders make informed decisions based on accurate and meaningful insights.
As part of a wider transformation in HR data and analytics, you’ll contribute to improving how workforce information is collected, analysed, and used across the institution.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you will work closely with the Workforce Data & MI Manager and colleagues across HR to deliver impactful data solutions. Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and maintaining interactive dashboards using tools such as Power BI
Analysing complex workforce data to produce clear, actionable insights
Supporting strategic decision-making through high-quality management information
Ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and compliance across HR systems
Preparing and coordinating statutory workforce data submissions (e.g. HESA returns)
Translating business needs into data-driven reports and visualisations
Working collaboratively with stakeholders across the university to improve data use
Supporting the ongoing development of workforce analytics and reporting processes

Essential Skills & Experience:
- Strong analytical ability with attention to detail
Experience creating dashboards or reports using tools like Power BI, Excel, or similar
Understanding of workforce or HR data and how it supports organisational decisions
Ability to ensure high standards of data quality and compliance
Strong communication skills, with the ability to present data clearly to different audiences
Desirable Experience:
Experience with higher education datasets (e.g. HESA, REF, TEF)
Previous experience working in a university or similar organisation
