Role Overview

This is an exciting leadership opportunity within the Wellbeing in Mind Team, part of the Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) programme in schools. The service supports the national initiative to improve early access to mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people in education settings.

As a Band 7 Team Manager, you will provide operational leadership, guiding a multidisciplinary team delivering school-based mental health interventions across Hambleton and Richmond.

Core Purpose of the Service

The Wellbeing in Mind Team delivers three integrated areas of work within educational settings:

  • Whole-school/college approach to mental health:
    Supporting schools to develop wellbeing strategies, policies, staff training, assemblies, and PSHE curriculum input.
    Consultation and advice to education staff:
    Providing guidance to teachers and school staff to build confidence in supporting pupil mental health needs.
    Direct support for young people:
    Delivering low-intensity interventions, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)-based approaches, for mild to moderate mental health difficulties.

Each of these areas contributes equally to the overall service model.

Key Responsibilities

As Team Manager, you will:

  • Provide operational and clinical leadership to the MHST team
    Oversee service delivery across schools and education settings
    Manage staff performance, supervision, and development
    Support the implementation of new pathways and service improvements
    Work closely with education providers, health services, and local partners
    Ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based service delivery
    Contribute to reporting, evaluation, and outcome monitoring
    Manage competing priorities in a fast-paced multi-agency environment
    Promote collaborative working across health, education, and community sectors

Leadership and Service Development

You will play a key role in shaping and strengthening the MHST model locally by:

  • Developing and improving clinical and operational processes
    Supporting quality improvement initiatives
    Leading supervision structures for clinical and non-clinical staff
    Ensuring effective safeguarding and risk management practices
    Contributing to strategic planning within the wider leadership team

You will work closely with other clinical leads and managers across the locality to ensure consistent and high-quality service delivery.

About the Organisation

Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust provides mental health and learning disability services across the North East of England.

The MHST programme is part of a national initiative aimed at improving mental health support for children and young people by embedding services directly within schools and colleges.

About You

This role requires an experienced and confident mental health professional with strong leadership capability.

Essential Requirements:

  • Current professional registration with an appropriate healthcare or social care body
    Master’s level qualification in a relevant subject OR equivalent senior clinical experience
    Significant experience managing staff in a clinical setting
    Experience working with individuals with complex mental health needs
    Training in clinical supervision and ability to provide supervision
    Strong understanding of safeguarding principles and risk management
    Experience working in multi-agency or partnership environments

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in quality improvement or service development
    Leadership qualification or management training
    Experience working in educational or youth mental health services

Knowledge and Skills

You will demonstrate:

  • Understanding of Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
    Knowledge of clinical governance and safeguarding frameworks
    Ability to lead service delivery and manage competing priorities
    Strong communication and relationship-building skills
    Experience in inter-agency collaboration
    Ability to support staff development and performance management
