Aston Medical School is dedicated to fostering social mobility, leadership, and international connections, while addressing community needs through its widening participation initiatives, research strategy, and focus on primary care education and healthcare leadership.

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for clinical trainees who are looking to gain experience and training in medical education. We are seeking up to five full-time Clinical Teaching Fellows (CTF) to join our innovative undergraduate curriculum delivery and management team. The position will commence immediately and is a non-clinical training post.

Working within a dynamic, multi-professional MBChB team, the CTFs will mainly facilitate small group tutorials for Years 1 and 2 on basic clinical skills, but may also assist with medical school days for Years 3, 4, and 5. The role will involve contributing to programme development, including electives and assistantships, admissions, assessments, and personal tutoring. In addition, the postholder will have opportunities to develop lecturing skills, create teaching materials, and engage in the design, management, and faculty development of the MBChB programme.

Comprehensive training and support will be provided, including access to full teaching materials. Postholders wishing to continue into a second year will be encouraged and supported to undertake a PG Certificate/Diploma/Masters in Higher Education at Aston University, depending on previous qualifications. Opportunities for collaborative evaluation and research projects will also be available.

Applicants must have a strong passion for supporting undergraduate medical education and an enthusiasm for collaborative working with colleagues in both the University and the NHS. The role is open to those who have completed FY2 and/or core training and are not pursuing specialty training in the current academic year. Applicants are advised to discuss their application with their Training Programme Director before applying. The School will work with successful candidates and local Trusts to allow one clinical session per week to be maintained.

Informal discussions about the role are encouraged prior to the interview, and tours of the facilities will be available on the interview day. To arrange an informal discussion or tour, please contact Dr. Claire Stocker at c.stocker@aston.ac.uk.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to give a short presentation during the interview.
