Job Description
The Role
We are seeking a Registered Nurse to join our primary care team at HMP Shotts, working closely with the Clinical Manager and other Mental Health and Addiction professionals within a multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of high-quality healthcare in a unique prison environment, ensuring the provision of person-centred, safe, and effective care.
As part of the primary healthcare nursing service, the post holder will be responsible for providing skilled nursing interventions and contributing to the development of healthcare services. Key duties will include conducting assessments, delivering interventions to address prisoner healthcare needs (e.g., emergency care, promoting wellbeing, and addressing health inequalities), and supporting the continuous improvement of healthcare delivery.

What We Need from You
Essential:
- Registered Nurse with a valid NMC Registration
- Completion of Pamova Level 1 and Scottish Prison Service (SPS) training (e.g., Talk to Me, Personal Protection, key, and radio training)
- Excellent team-working skills and the ability to work independently
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to manage time effectively and work with a range of information technologies
- A respectful and dignified approach to working with prisoners, even in challenging situations
Desirable:
- Evidence of continuing professional development (e.g., post-registration certificate, diploma, or degree)
- Health care training in areas such as anaphylaxis, resuscitation, manual handling
- Previous experience in Primary Care, A&E, substance misuse, or secure environments
- Awareness of health-related policies and strategies for implementation
- Knowledge of the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) Act, 2003
- High awareness of security protocols and procedures

Contract Details
- Contract Type: Permanent
- Full-time: 37 hours per week
- Location: HMP Shotts Health Centre
- Working Pattern: To be confirmed by the hiring manager. Applicants may be considered for similar roles at other locations.
