Calibration Technician – Job Description

The Calibration Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of equipment and instruments used in production and maintenance, particularly in propeller systems. This position is responsible for managing calibration activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and maintaining the precise performance of various measurement and testing equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Calibration Management: Oversee and maintain calibration processes for a broad range of equipment, including dimensional measurement tools, pressure gauges, thermometers, scales, torque wrenches, ovens, test rigs, and more.
  • Department Interaction: Plan and track calibration schedules to ensure equipment is calibrated on time. Generate reports to prevent overdue calibration and ensure continuity in production and maintenance operations.
  • Calibration Coordination: Work with approved suppliers to arrange for calibration of portable and stationary equipment. This includes preparing equipment for shipping or coordinating on-site calibration.
  • Calibration Register: Maintain an up-to-date calibration register to ensure all equipment is traceable and accurately recorded within the system.
  • Record Keeping: Review, store, and manage calibration records, including test results and certificates, to ensure compliance with regulations and internal standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Analyze calibration data to verify that equipment meets required precision and accuracy standards, contributing to overall quality control efforts.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot instrument malfunctions. Assess whether repairs or replacements are necessary before sending equipment to suppliers for further action.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow established safety protocols when handling equipment and hazardous materials to ensure a safe working environment.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Technical Expertise: Solid understanding of measurement principles and calibration techniques, along with familiarity with a variety of measurement instruments and their applications.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of precision and focus is crucial to ensuring accurate and reliable calibrations.
  • Analytical Abilities: Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills to address and resolve instrument-related issues effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with colleagues, suppliers, and auditors.
  • Computer Proficiency: Skilled in using software for data entry, analysis, and reporting.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work with different types of equipment and adjust to evolving calibration procedures and standards.
