Role Overview
This is a rewarding opportunity to join a female adult mental health ward as an Activity Co-ordinator (or Trainee), where your work will directly contribute to improving patients’ wellbeing and recovery.
In this role, you will design and deliver meaningful activities that support patients’ emotional, social, and therapeutic needs. Activities may take place on the ward, in small groups, one-to-one sessions, or within the local community. The approach should always be flexible, adapting to patients’ interests, abilities, and recovery goals.
You’ll play a key part in helping individuals regain confidence, develop independence, and reconnect with everyday life.
What You’ll Be Doing
Plan and deliver a varied programme of activities such as arts and crafts, music, cooking, light exercise, games, or gardening
Encourage patients to participate in activities that promote mental wellbeing and social interaction
Work closely with nursing staff and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, person-centred care
Support patients in rebuilding confidence and preparing for discharge into the community
Adapt activities based on individual needs, cultural backgrounds, and preferences
Maintain awareness of risk and ensure all activities are delivered safely
Assist in providing direct care when needed, always prioritising patient safety
Training & Development
If you do not already hold the required qualifications, you will be supported to complete the Activity Coordinator Framework, which includes:
- Level 3 Certificate in Activity Provision in Social Care
Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy (or equivalent)
Completion of relevant competencies within 2 years
This role is ideal for someone who is motivated to grow within health or social care.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- A Level 3 qualification (or higher) in a relevant subject such as health, social care, education, or communication
Basic literacy and numeracy (Level 2 or equivalent)
Experience (paid, voluntary, or personal) supporting individuals with mental health conditions or learning
disabilities
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to organise activities and engage others positively
Compassion, patience, and a calm, flexible approach
Desirable:
- Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification (if not already held)
Experience delivering structured activities or group sessions
