Specialist Cancer Services Pharmacist – University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) is a leading tertiary referral Cancer Centre, offering comprehensive services including five outpatient day case units, four inpatient wards, and numerous outpatient clinics. Our cancer pharmacists are integral to every aspect of care, collaborating across ward pharmacy activities, day unit responsibilities, and a variety of pharmacist-led clinics. We maintain close ties with the University of Birmingham’s School of Pharmacy, contributing significantly to education and research initiatives.
We are seeking passionate and driven specialist cancer services pharmacists to join our dynamic team and provide exceptional pharmaceutical care to patients within haematology and oncology. With a growing number of pharmacists already working independently in clinics, we are keen to further develop these roles, allowing team members to specialise in specific areas of oncology or haematology.

Main Duties, Responsibilities & Required Skills:
- Work autonomously as a pharmacist prescriber in oncology or haematology clinics.
- Act as a role model and mentor for junior pharmacists, supporting education and training initiatives.
- Ensure the safe and effective delivery of clinical pharmacy services to cancer patients.
- Provide counselling and medication support to oral SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment) patients.
- Collaborate with Advanced Clinical and Consultant Pharmacists to further enhance clinical pharmacy services.
- Contribute to the research and development initiatives within the pharmacy department.

Qualifications:
Essential:
- Four-year vocational Master’s degree in pharmacy (or equivalent).
- Post-graduate clinical pharmacy qualification or equivalent experience.
- Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Willingness to pursue a non-medical prescribing qualification.
Desirable:
- Working towards Level I Faculty Membership with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS).
- Non-medical prescribing qualification.
Experience:
Essential:
- Significant post-registration hospital pharmacy experience in oncology.
- In-depth clinical knowledge in oncology.
- Active participation in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Strong commitment to delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care.
- Good critical appraisal skills.
- Knowledge of national initiatives and guidelines (e.g., NICE, NSF).
- Experience in answering Medicines Information queries.
- Ability to manage drug budget information.
Desirable:
- Experience teaching or presenting to healthcare professionals and patients.
- Ability to manage budgets and contribute to cost improvement initiatives.
- Previous involvement in clinical trials.
Additional Criteria:
Essential:
- Willingness to travel across multiple Trust sites as required.
- Commitment to ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS).
