Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Research & Development Department for a Research Nurse to join our team.

In this role, you will play a central part in providing excellent research monitoring and care for patients who have consented to participate in studies. You’ll also support the research and clinical teams you work with, ensuring they are trained, supported, and developed in their professional and research roles. A key responsibility will be maintaining accurate and comprehensive records of the data derived from research studies.

You will be instrumental in developing processes and systems to optimize patient recruitment for both academic and commercial studies. Ensuring that research patients are monitored, supported, and receive the highest level of care will be a primary focus. You’ll work across a range of studies, including observational research, novel drug therapies, and clinical interventions in various specialty areas. Additionally, you will be expected to provide cover for colleagues when needed.

This role offers the opportunity to significantly develop your research and clinical skills and expand your knowledge base.

Informal visits and discussions are encouraged.

As a Research Nurse, you will contribute to a wide range of research studies, including investigational medication studies, observational research, and clinical interventions. You will also support and manage patient care within the Research Department.

While experience in acute care and an interest in developing a career in research are advantageous, prior research experience is not required.

Under the guidance of the Lead Consultants, Registrars, Research Doctors, and Senior Research Nurses, you will be involved in recruiting and following up with patients for research studies at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. You’ll also perform study-related procedures in line with protocols and ensure the safety and ongoing care of research participants. Close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team is essential, and you’ll be responsible for referring patients for specialist care when needed. Additionally, maintaining precise and comprehensive research data will be an important part of your role. The position will require you to work autonomously, with supervision and support from Senior Research Nurses.
