Maintenance Fitter – Job Description
The Maintenance Fitter is responsible for supporting the planned and reactive maintenance of site plant and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with line management and utilize the site’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to prioritize and respond to reactive maintenance tasks.
- Perform planned maintenance on plant and equipment according to preventative maintenance schedules outlined in the CMMS.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot faults on plant and equipment using technical drawings, manuals, and PLC/CNC applications when needed.
- Conduct fault finding down to the component level.
- Assist with the planning and execution of site-specific project work.
- Relocate plant and equipment as required.
- Operate and maintain site-powered vehicles.
- Ensure adherence to safe working practices, including compliance with Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
- Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to F&M Apprentice Mechanics.
- Work with the Maintenance office to order parts or spares for breakdowns, ensuring detailed information is provided.
- Collaborate with contractors and suppliers when necessary.
- Provide temporary lead mechanic cover when required.
- Conduct statutory inspections on plant and machinery.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Completion of a recognized mechanical engineering apprenticeship (trade certificates required).
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
- Capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage varying workloads and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Computer literate with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Recent mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems.
