Maintenance Fitter – Job Description

The Maintenance Fitter is responsible for supporting the planned and reactive maintenance of site plant and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with line management and utilize the site’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to prioritize and respond to reactive maintenance tasks.
• Perform planned maintenance on plant and equipment according to preventative maintenance schedules outlined in the CMMS.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot faults on plant and equipment using technical drawings, manuals, and PLC/CNC applications when needed.
• Conduct fault finding down to the component level.
• Assist with the planning and execution of site-specific project work.
• Relocate plant and equipment as required.
• Operate and maintain site-powered vehicles.
• Ensure adherence to safe working practices, including compliance with Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
• Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to F&M Apprentice Mechanics.
• Work with the Maintenance office to order parts or spares for breakdowns, ensuring detailed information is provided.
• Collaborate with contractors and suppliers when necessary.
• Provide temporary lead mechanic cover when required.
• Conduct statutory inspections on plant and machinery.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Completion of a recognized mechanical engineering apprenticeship (trade certificates required).
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
• Capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to manage varying workloads and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Computer literate with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Recent mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial environment.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems.
