Manufacturing Engineer – Military Power Programs
Location: Cheltenham
Role Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Manufacturing Engineer to join our Military Power Programs team in Cheltenham. This role may require flexibility with working hours, including swing shifts, depending on operational needs. The ideal candidate will be a motivated and detail-oriented engineer with a passion for process improvement and control. In this role, you will collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and operations teams to introduce advanced manufacturing technologies and design-for-manufacture principles. An understanding of electrical and mechanical manufacturing processes will be an advantage.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain documentation for new and existing manufacturing processes, such as build manuals, control plans, and PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis).
- Implement engineering changes and ensure product compliance by conducting first article inspections per AS9102 requirements.
- Establish and monitor process capabilities to ensure repeatable product manufacturing.
- Analyze manufacturing processes to identify and resolve safety risks, improve quality (e.g., defect reduction, yield improvement), and reduce waste (e.g., time, cost) through lean methodologies.
- Investigate quality issues and operational bottlenecks, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence and improve workflow.
- Ensure compliance with relevant company policies, industry regulations, and quality standards.
- Act as the point of contact for your area of the manufacturing facility, collaborating with operational teams to manage and implement continuous improvements.
- Review new product designs to assess manufacturability and provide feedback to the design teams.
- Update engineering procedures and quality standards in line with industry developments and best practices.
- Collaborate with the wider Manufacturing Engineering team to evaluate and procure capital equipment.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Proven experience in a Manufacturing Engineering role, with a strong understanding of process control documentation and procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Desired Characteristics:
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to work independently.
- Familiarity with electrical and mechanical manufacturing processes.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of aviation regulatory requirements.
- Awareness of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles is advantageous.
