About the Role

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Mental Health Nurse to join the Scarborough Integrated Community Team as a Band 7 Clinical Specialist Nurse.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior nurse with substantial community mental health experience who can provide strong clinical leadership while continuing to deliver high-quality, person-centred care.

Working within the adult community mental health service, you will manage a clinical caseload, contribute to assessments and treatment planning, and provide specialist advice and support to colleagues. You will also play an important role in developing nursing practice and supporting improvements across the service.

As a senior member of the team, you will contribute to service development and help translate national guidance, professional standards and local priorities into effective clinical practice.

A sound understanding of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Human Rights Act is essential, as these provide an important legal and ethical framework for the work.

Key Responsibilities

In this senior clinical position, you will:

– Maintain high standards of professional nursing practice in line with the NMC Code and Trust governance requirements.
– Provide specialist clinical leadership to nursing staff within the designated area.
– Manage an appropriate clinical caseload and undertake assessments, care planning and treatment interventions.
– Support nurse-led assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning within your professional scope of practice.
– Work as a non-medical prescriber or deliver an appropriately governed therapeutic intervention where qualified and competent to do so.
– Provide clinical supervision, coaching and professional support to nurses and other members of the wider team.
– Act as a professional resource for nursing practice and promote evidence-based approaches to care.
– Work closely with the Team Manager and other senior clinicians to maintain safe and effective standards of practice.
– Identify opportunities for improving clinical services and help ensure agreed developments become established and sustainable.
– Contribute to education and training programmes relevant to the specialist area.
– Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement and service evaluation.
– Support the use of research and current evidence to improve patient care.
– Promote collaborative working with patients, families, carers and partner services.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a highly experienced mental health professional who can demonstrate strong clinical judgement, leadership ability and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Essential Qualifications and Professional Requirements

Applicants should have:

– Current professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as an RMN, RNLD or RGN. RNSC registration applies to CAMHS roles only.
– Recognised Practice Assessor or Practice Supervisor status.
– Appropriate training and experience in providing clinical supervision.
– Professional knowledge gained through a degree or equivalent post-registration education, supported by relevant specialist training and continuing professional development.
– Evidence of study or professional development at Level 7 or equivalent, such as postgraduate qualifications or specialist training in an appropriate clinical field.
– Alternatively, significant relevant clinical experience, including at least two years working at Band 6 level or above, together with suitable evidence of continuing professional development.

Relevant specialist qualifications or experience may include areas such as independent prescribing, psychosocial interventions, CBT, systemic family therapy or dialectical behaviour therapy.

Essential Experience

You should be able to demonstrate:

– Substantial experience supporting people with complex mental health needs.
– Experience working with individuals presenting with behaviours that may involve significant risk.
– Strong knowledge and practical experience of clinical risk assessment and risk management.
– Effective partnership working with patients, families and carers.
– Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
– Involvement in quality improvement, audit or service development initiatives.
– The ability to provide clinical leadership and support professional development within a nursing team.
