Job Description

About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for a motivated Registered Nurse to join the pre-operative and day case services at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.

The role offers the opportunity to work across Woodpecker Ward and Nightingale Ward, supporting children and young people throughout their surgical journey.

Woodpecker Ward provides pre-operative care. Children are admitted to the ward, assessed and prepared for surgery before transferring to Theatre. Following their procedure, patients requiring an overnight stay return to one of the hospital’s inpatient wards for continued recovery.

Nightingale Ward operates as a day case service. Patients are admitted and prepared for their procedure before returning to the ward afterwards, where nursing staff support their recovery until they are ready to go home later that day.

Previous experience in a day case environment would be advantageous, although it is not essential. This nurse-led service provides an excellent opportunity to develop a broad range of clinical and organisational skills while caring for patients from admission through to discharge.

The service continues to grow and welcomes children and young people from birth to 18 years across a wide range of clinical specialties.
