Role Overview

This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced pharmacist to step into a senior clinical role within a supportive and progressive NHS Trust. You will play a key part in delivering high-quality medicines optimisation across both community hospitals and mental health services.

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will help ensure that patients receive safe, effective, and personalised medication management. This role combines clinical practice, leadership, and service development—offering a well-rounded and impactful career step.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Senior Pharmacist, your work will span clinical care, leadership, and service improvement. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert pharmaceutical care to patients with complex needs
    Supporting safe prescribing, particularly for high-risk medicines
    Conducting medication reviews, including polypharmacy and deprescribing
    Contributing to multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions
    Leading or supporting quality improvement and medicines safety initiatives
    Assisting in the development of clinical guidelines and policies
    Participating in clinical audits and service evaluations

You will also contribute to maintaining high standards of clinical governance across the Trust.

Leadership & Team Contribution

In this senior role, you will:

  • Support and mentor junior pharmacists and pharmacy staff
    Contribute to staff training and continuous professional development (CPD)
    Assist with appraisals and performance development
    Deputise for Clinical Pharmacy Leads when required
    Collaborate across disciplines to improve patient care and service delivery

Working Locations & Pattern

Your work will primarily cover community and mental health sites in West Somerset, including:

  • Minehead Community Hospital
    Williton Community Hospital
    Burnham-on-Sea Community Hospital
    Wellsprings Mental Health Site

Additional responsibilities include:

Weekly dispensary duties at Musgrove Park Hospital
Participation in weekend and bank holiday rotas at the acute site

What We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Pharmacy (MPharm) or equivalent
    Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
    Postgraduate qualification in clinical or mental health pharmacy (or working towards)
    Non-Medical Prescriber status (or willingness to train)

Desirable Qualifications

  • Eligibility to act as a Designated Supervisor for Foundation Pharmacists
    Membership of the College of Mental Health Pharmacy
    Additional postgraduate training in mental health

Key Experience & Skills

  • Strong clinical knowledge across a range of patient groups
    Experience in medicines optimisation and patient-centred care
    Ability to manage complex medication regimens
    Leadership and mentoring skills
    Experience in audit, research, or service improvement
    Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
