Role Overview
This is a senior clinical leadership position within the Wellbeing in Mind Teams (WiMT), part of the national Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) programme supporting children and young people in education settings.
The role sits at the forefront of service transformation, as MHSTs continue to expand nationally with the aim of reaching all state-funded schools and colleges by 2030. You will help shape how the service evolves while maintaining high-quality, trauma-informed and evidence-based care.
You will be responsible for leading clinical practice, driving service innovation, and supporting the development of a skilled and resilient workforce across multiple education settings.
Key Responsibilities
In this advanced clinical leadership role, you will:
- Provide expert clinical leadership across Wellbeing in Mind Teams
Oversee the development of consistent, evidence-based clinical pathways
Lead service redesign and innovation as the programme expands
Ensure trauma-informed and relational approaches are embedded in practice
Deliver advanced clinical decision-making support in complex cases
Provide safeguarding leadership and oversight of high-risk situations
Supervise, mentor, and develop clinical staff across teams
Lead quality audits and contribute to governance forums
Analyse service data to inform improvement and transformation
Produce high-quality reports, service evaluations, and business case input
Represent the service at local, regional, and national levels
Strengthen partnerships with schools, commissioners, and health systems
About the Service
Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust delivers mental health and learning disability services across Northern England.
The Wellbeing in Mind Teams are embedded within schools and colleges, providing early intervention mental health support for children and young people. The service focuses on prevention, early help, and integrated care delivered in partnership with education providers.
About You
This role requires a highly experienced and forward-thinking clinical leader with strong expertise in child and adolescent mental health.
Essential Requirements:
- Registration with a relevant professional body (NMC, HCPC, Social Work England, etc.)
Experience working at Band 7 or above in children and young people’s mental health services
Postgraduate qualification (Diploma or higher) in a relevant clinical area
Evidence of advanced clinical training or equivalent Masters-level learning (or working towards it)
Strong experience in early intervention or school-based mental health services
Ability to provide clinical supervision and leadership to staff
Experience working in multidisciplinary and multi-agency environments
Advanced safeguarding and risk management skills
Desirable Experience:
- Leadership in service transformation or redesign
Experience working in geographically dispersed teams
Experience in relational or embedded mental health models
Contribution to research, audits, or service evaluation
