About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced ST4+ doctor to join the Emergency Department at Musgrove Park Hospital as a Clinical Teaching Fellow.
The post is designed to combine clinical emergency medicine (50%) with undergraduate medical education (50%), supporting students from Peninsula Medical School (Years 3–5). It is ideal for doctors seeking to strengthen senior clinical decision-making skills while developing a strong foundation in medical education and simulation teaching.
You will join a supportive team within a busy Emergency Department that manages approximately 90,000 patients annually, including a significant proportion of paediatric and trauma cases.
Clinical Responsibilities (50%)
In your clinical role, you will:
- Work as a middle-grade doctor within the Emergency Department rota
Assess and manage a wide range of emergency and trauma presentations
Lead care for critically ill or injured patients when required
Supervise junior doctors including F1, F2, and GP trainees
Participate in evening, weekend, and night shifts as part of a full rota
Contribute to clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement activities
The department benefits from strong consultant presence throughout the day and senior clinical support overnight.
Teaching & Education (50%)
You will play an active role in shaping the learning experience of medical students by:
- Delivering bedside teaching, induction sessions, and clinical skills training
Facilitating simulation-based education at Musgrove Park Academy
Supporting small group tutorials and clinical supervision
Mentoring undergraduate medical students during placements
Contributing to assessment and feedback processes
Working collaboratively with a team of Clinical Teaching Fellows
Training & Development Opportunities

What We’re Looking For
Essential Requirements
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Full registration with a licence to practise from the General Medical Council
At least 2 years of NHS clinical experience
Minimum 36 months experience in Emergency Medicine or ACCS
Experience teaching medical students or healthcare professionals
Strong communication, teamwork, and clinical decision-making skills
Ability to assess and manage acutely unwell patients
Current certification in at least two of the following: ALS, ATLS, EPLS/APLS, or ETC
Desirable
- MRCEM qualification or progress towards it
Postgraduate qualification in medical education
Experience in clinical governance or audit leadership
Involvement in pastoral support of colleagues or trainees
