About the Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a junior doctor to gain valuable experience in Gastroenterology within a well-established and supportive NHS department. The role is particularly suited to doctors considering a future career in gastroenterology or a related medical specialty.
You will primarily be based on the gastroenterology inpatient ward, working alongside a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care. The post is designed to strengthen your clinical skills while also offering opportunities to engage in teaching and quality improvement work.
Importantly, this role does not include participation in the general medical on-call rota, allowing you to focus on specialty development.
What You’ll Be Doing
Provide day-to-day care for patients on a dedicated gastroenterology ward
Participate in consultant-led ward rounds and patient reviews
Support assessment and management of new admissions and unwell patients
Attend outpatient clinics (face-to-face and telephone-based), including follow-up and cancer clinics
Collaborate with consultants, registrars, nurses, and junior doctors to deliver coordinated care
Take part in teaching sessions, including Foundation Year and specialty training programmes
Contribute to clinical audits and quality improvement projects

What We’re Looking For
Essential Requirements:
- MBBS (or equivalent medical qualification)
Full registration with a licence to practise from the General Medical Council
Completion of Foundation Training (or equivalent)
Minimum 2 years of NHS experience
Evidence of involvement in audit or quality improvement work
Desirable:
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification
Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training
Experience teaching junior staff
Demonstrated interest in gastroenterology
