JOB SUMMARY

 

We are looking for an Electrical and Electronics Engineer to work in our aerospace Advanced Technology Organisation (ATO). You will play an important part in developing the company’s next generation of products. You will be expected to define the hardware scope and functionality of our new products, collaborate with the project team during the concept development and prototype design phases, and support the transition to production by applying theoretical knowledge and hands-on abilities. This position is ideal for a free-thinking, practical problem solver who enjoys inventing high-quality, cost-effective new goods. A minimum of two years of postgraduate experience is necessary.

We are searching for a hands-on, multi-skilled engineer/technician with necessary experience to support the safe demonstration, testing, and verification of engineering prototypes in advanced technology laboratories as well as customer labs.

Job Description.

The ATO at Bishops Cleeve has a portfolio of aviation technology development projects spanning Power and Avionics systems. GE Aerospace is actively involved in aeroplane electrification research and development, with a focus on safety. The selected candidate will be assigned to projects based on their expertise and may expect to work on a variety of products and technologies throughout their career.

This is a multifaceted profession with a high level of autonomy, however the primary competencies we are seeking for are in the design, analysis, requirements management, and testing of power electronics hardware in an R&D environment. The position requires regular communication with systems engineering, embedded software development, mechanical design, and testing divisions.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Create product hardware concepts and requirements that take into account system needs.
  • Create a prototype product hardware architecture in coordination with the systems, software, mechanical, and tooling teams.
  • Have, or be willing to learn, a thorough understanding of aircraft electrical power and avionics systems, including electric and hybrid cars.
  • Work with our customers to create concepts for their future aircraft.
  • Perform functional, EMC, and environmental testing of prototype equipment in accordance with applicable regulations, identifying deficiencies or problems.
  • The position is expected to necessitate both local and foreign travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering or science discipline.
  • Desirable: Master’s or PhD in a relevant field.
  • Experience as an Electrical/Electronic Engineer in aerospace, automotive, or industrial settings.
  • Excellent understanding of electrical power systems, vehicle systems, and display systems.
  • Experience with industry-standard tools such as DOORS, SIMetrics simulation, and Mentor Graphics schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Experience working safely in laboratory environments (preferably with high voltage).
  • Experience with lab test equipment and measuring techniques (DMM, Scopes, PSUs, and Load Banks).

  • Exceptional design skills, including the capacity to resolve multivariable, multidomain trade studies to optimise designs.
  • Strong analogue electronics design background.
  • Working knowledge of model-based development.
  • Working knowledge of aeronautical development standards DO-254 and DO160.
  • Excellent communication abilities across all media.
  • The ability to communicate with customers, suppliers, and partners at all levels of business.
  • The capacity to create clear reports, documentation, and trade studies
  • The ability to motivate the team and coworkers.
  • Worked in a research and development environment.
  • Demonstration of leadership in small teams or specialised operations.
