We are looking for a Principal Engineer (M365) to join our Digital, Data, and Technology Group.
About the role
The Principal Engineer will be responsible for shaping and implementing the changes and enhancements needed to overhaul the University’s technological service provision.
Reporting to the appropriate ‘Head of’ (Head of Technology Enablement & Support, Head of Infrastructure, or Head of Platforms & Applications). This role is part of the overall leadership team, providing guidance for the Delivery & Operations function. As an expert in their profession, they will be accountable for providing effective leadership in their technical and functional areas of responsibility.
The role will involve engineering across a wide range of technology stacks, including on-premises and cloud-based solutions. The Principal Engineer possesses the ability to plan and oversee all phases of work throughout the team, driving continuous improvement and embedding best practices, processes, and methodologies.
As a Principal Engineer, you will be in charge of ensuring that operational IT services are delivered effectively in your area, in compliance with agreed-upon service levels, standards, and regulations. Working with the DDaT Portfolio team, you will be responsible for the effective planning and implementation of projects in your area, ensuring alignment with agreed-upon organisational priorities and adherence to the agreed-upon project delivery and assurance methodology.
A market supplement of up to £7,000 is offered at our discretion, depending on abilities and experience.
About You
– Overseeing Microsoft 365 projects from start to finish, including planning, execution, monitoring, and ensuring project delivery within scope and timeline.
– Establishing long-term connections with key stakeholders and managing organisational change, particularly in respect to Microsoft 365 activities, as well as facilitating smooth transitions for end users.
– Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complicated technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
– Leading and guiding teams involves setting clear goals, providing regular feedback, and identifying and resolving areas for growth.
– Having a broad and deep understanding of contemporary IT technologies and how they are applied in higher education.
DDaT offers a £2,000 New Starter Bonus on top of its other incentives. After successfully completing one year of service, you will be paid £1,000. The remaining £1,000 will be given after you have successfully completed two years of service.
Please keep in mind that this bonus is only available for certain roles at DDaT and is indicated in the appropriate job advertisements. Bonus payments will be pro rata for part-time positions.
*This bonus is subject to certain limits and conditions (see attached paper).
