Role Overview
This is an excellent leadership opportunity for an experienced mental health professional to step into a Band 7 Team Manager role within the Wellbeing in Mind Team (Mental Health Support Team – MHST).
The service works directly with schools and colleges, supporting children and young people in line with the UK’s national focus on improving early access to mental health support in education settings. As Team Manager, you will lead a multidisciplinary team while helping shape how mental health services are delivered across local schools.
About the Service
The Wellbeing in Mind Team operates across education settings and focuses on early intervention and prevention. The team’s work is structured around three key areas:
Whole-School Approach to Wellbeing
Supporting schools and colleges to embed mental health into their culture through policies, staff training, and awareness initiatives.
Consultation & Advice
- Providing guidance to teaching staff to build confidence in identifying and supporting students’ mental health needs.
Direct Clinical Work
- Delivering assessments and low-intensity interventions (primarily cognitive behavioural approaches) for young people.
Each area forms a balanced part of the team’s overall workload.
Key Responsibilities
As Team Manager, you will:
- Provide operational leadership and day-to-day management of the team
Supervise and support staff, including delivering clinical supervision
Manage workload demands, ensuring effective prioritisation across services
Build strong relationships with schools, partners, and stakeholders
Contribute to the development of new pathways and service improvements
Support reporting and evaluation of service outcomes
Promote safe, effective, and high-quality care delivery
Leadership & Working Environment
You will work closely with Clinical Leads and other Team Managers as part of a wider leadership structure. The team has a strong culture of learning, collaboration, and innovation, and you will play a key role in driving continuous improvement.
Person Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Current professional registration (e.g., healthcare, social work, or relevant clinical qualification such as PWP/CWP)
Master’s level qualification in leadership or relevant field OR equivalent senior clinical experience (Band 6 or above)
Training in clinical supervision
Recognised Practice Assessor/Supervisor
Essential Experience
- Proven experience in team management and leadership
Experience working with children or young people with complex mental health needs
Experience delivering supervision and supporting staff development
Strong partnership working across agencies (education, health, social care)
Knowledge & Skills
In-depth understanding of safeguarding and risk management
Knowledge of clinical governance and quality improvement
Awareness of medicines management in clinical settings
Understanding of key legislation, including:
- Mental Health Act
Mental Capacity Act
Strong communication, organisational, and decision-making skills
