Role Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Substantive Consultant in Older Adult Psychiatry to join a well-established multidisciplinary mental health service on the Isle of Wight.
This role focuses on delivering specialist psychiatric care for older adults with complex mental health needs, including functional psychiatric disorders and cognitive impairment. You will work primarily in the community, supporting integrated teams to provide high-quality, person-centred care.
The post also includes leadership in the development of clinical pathways for older adults with functional mental disorders, working closely with senior colleagues across the service.
 Clinical Focus
You will be responsible for providing specialist input across a varied and complex caseload, including:
- Assessment and management of dementia and memory disorders
Treatment of functional mental health conditions in older adults
Support for patients with complex physical health and psychiatric comorbidity
Occasional involvement with adults under 65 with early-onset dementia or long-term disability-related mental health needs
 Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Lead and contribute to multidisciplinary community mental health teams
Provide expert psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning
Develop and refine clinical pathways for older adult mental health services
Support continuity of care across inpatient, outpatient, and community services
Education & Supervision
- Act as a clinical and educational supervisor for junior doctors and trainees
Participate in weekly academic teaching sessions
Contribute to peer support and professional development groups
Promote evidence-based practice across the MDT
Service Development
- Contribute to service improvement initiatives
Support integration across mental health, community, and physical health services
Participate in governance, audit, and quality improvement work

 Essential Requirements
- Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register in Old Age Psychiatry, or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview
Full GMC registration with licence to practise
