Shape the Future of Cancer Care in Somerset
An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Consultant Medical Oncologist with a specialist interest in Melanoma and Gynaecological cancers to join a highly regarded oncology service within Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.
This role offers the chance to work in a progressive multidisciplinary environment that combines advanced cancer treatment, innovative immunotherapy services, and a strong clinical trials programme. You will be part of a collaborative team delivering compassionate and evidence-based care across Somerset’s growing oncology network.
The service supports a regional population of approximately 560,000 patients through modern facilities including the Beacon Centre, Musgrove Park Hospital, Yeovil Hospital, and St Margaret’s Hospice.
The Opportunity
The successful candidate will lead and support specialist oncology services in:
- Melanoma oncology
Gynaecological cancers
Systemic anti-cancer therapies
Oncology outpatient and inpatient services
Radiotherapy treatment pathways
You will work alongside experienced Clinical and Medical Oncologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Consultant Pharmacists, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Radiographers, and junior medical teams in a supportive and academically active setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage patients with Melanoma and Gynaecological malignancies
Deliver systemic anti-cancer treatment and oncology consultations
Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
Collaborate closely with Dermatology, Maxillofacial, Gynaecology, and Immunotherapy services
Support acute oncology and haematology services
Contribute to teaching, mentoring, and supervision of junior doctors
Participate in service development and quality improvement initiatives
Engage in clinical research and ongoing oncology trials
Join the consultant on-call rota (approximately 1:12 evenings/weekends)

Candidate Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register, or eligibility within six months of interview
CCT in Medical Oncology (or expected completion within six months)
Essential Experience
- Independent oncology practice within multidisciplinary settings
Experience in melanoma and gynaecological oncology
Experience delivering systemic anti-cancer therapies
Desirable Experience
- Clinical trials and research participation
Teaching or postgraduate training involvement
Experience using electronic prescribing systems
