Overview of the Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Medical Oncologist with a specialist focus on melanoma and gynaecological cancers to join a forward-thinking and supportive oncology team. You will be part of a well-established service that delivers high-quality cancer care across Somerset, supported by experienced multidisciplinary teams and an active clinical trials programme.
The role combines clinical expertise, collaborative working, and opportunities to contribute to service innovation and research.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you will:
- Lead the management of patients with melanoma and gynaecological cancers
Deliver outpatient and inpatient oncology care, including systemic anti-cancer therapy
Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and contribute to shared decision-making
Work closely with specialist nurses, immunotherapy teams, and surgical colleagues
Support the Acute Haematology Oncology Service
Supervise and teach junior doctors and trainees
Engage in clinical research and ongoing trials
Take part in a 1:12 on-call rota (including evenings and weekends)
You’ll also benefit from structured peer support, including weekly pre-clinic discussions where cases are reviewed collaboratively.

The service operates across multiple sites, including Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil, with strong links to community hospitals across the county.

Ongoing infrastructure investment, including surgical and outpatient expansions
Active clinical trials in both radiotherapy and drug therapies

What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
Specialist registration or eligibility
CCT in Medical Oncology (or within 6 months)
Essential Experience
- Proven experience in melanoma and/or gynaecological oncology
Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
Desirable Experience
- Involvement in clinical research or trials
Teaching experience (undergraduate/postgraduate)
Familiarity with e-prescribing systems
Additional Requirements
- Commitment to clinical governance and high standards of care
Ability to travel between sites (driving licence preferred)
