Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a Clinical Scientist, you will:
- Deliver specialist services in diagnostic radiology physics and radiation protection
Perform quality assurance testing on complex diagnostic and interventional X-ray equipment
Support patient dose optimisation and ensure compliance with radiation safety legislation
Collaborate with Medical Physics Experts (MPEs), Radiation Protection Advisers (RPAs), clinicians, and engineers
Lead and manage local quality control programmes
Train and mentor trainee Clinical Scientists and Technologists
Contribute to research, innovation, and service improvement initiatives
Present scientific work at national and international forums

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- BSc (Hons) in Physics or a related discipline
Postgraduate qualification (MSc, MPhil, or PhD) or equivalent experience
Completion of the NHS Scientist Training Programme (STP), or near completion
Registration (or working towards registration) with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Essential Experience
- Broad experience in Medical Physics practice
Expertise in diagnostic X-ray systems and associated QA testing
Ability to interpret complex measurements and ensure regulatory compliance
Additional Requirements
This role is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975.
