Job Description
About the Role
This is an opportunity to join the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) service, a nationally recognised, evidence-based model that helps people experiencing mental health conditions move into paid employment and stay in work.
Employment is a key part of recovery, providing structure, independence, confidence, and social connection. Despite this, many people with mental health conditions remain out of work. The IPS service aims to close this gap by offering tailored, practical employment support.
In this role, you will support IPS Employment Specialists in helping individuals across York and North Yorkshire find meaningful and sustainable employment.
Important: Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. This role is eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.
What You’ll Be Doing
Working as part of the IPS team, you will help individuals on their employment journey by providing practical, hands-on support.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting job seekers with CV writing and job applications
Assisting with job searching and identifying suitable employment opportunities
Helping individuals prepare for interviews and build confidence
Supporting clients in work through ongoing guidance (“in-work support”)
Using employment support tools and digital platforms effectively
Liaising with employers, community organisations, and partner agencies
Working closely with IPS Employment Specialists to deliver personalised support
You will play an active role in helping ensure the right person is matched to the right job at the right time.
About the IPS Model
IPS (Individual Placement and Support) is based on the principle that people with mental health conditions can and do succeed in competitive employment when given the right support.
Key principles include:
- Rapid job search rather than long pre-employment training
Focus on real, competitive employment
Integration with mental health services
Ongoing support for both employee and employer
Respect for individual choice and preferences
