Role Overview
This is an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) serving the Selby area within North Yorkshire and York. The role sits within a well-established system commissioned by the Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership.
You will play a key role in supporting children and young people with mental health needs, working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that focuses on early intervention, accessibility, and recovery-oriented care.
 Service Structure
The service operates a Single Point of Access (SPA) model, where experienced clinicians triage referrals and provide initial guidance to families, carers, and professionals. This approach ensures timely access and helps young people navigate the most appropriate care pathways.

 Key Responsibilities
As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will:
- Provide specialist psychiatric assessments and interventions for children and adolescents
Manage a caseload of approximately 100 patients
Conduct around 2 new assessments per week
Work closely with multidisciplinary teams (MDT), including care coordinators and allied professionals
Support cases referred from local secondary schools and feeder primary schools
Share clinical responsibility with another Consultant Psychiatrist in the team
Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives

 Person Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with licence to practise
Eligible for Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT
Approved Clinician status (or achievable within 3 months)
Section 12 approval under the Mental Health Act (or achievable within 3 months)
Desirable Qualifications
- MRCPsych qualification
Additional training in research, education, or management
Experience in clinical audits and service improvement
Skills & Competencies
Essential
- Strong clinical expertise in CAMHS
Ability to manage complex cases using a biopsychosocial approach
Excellent communication skills
Experience in teaching, audit, and continuous professional development
Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
Desirable
- Leadership experience beyond MDT level
Involvement in research or service evaluation
Evidence of academic achievements (publications, presentations, awards)
