Role Overview

University College London (UCL) is seeking an experienced and strategic leader for the position of Faculty Director of Operations within the Faculty of Laws.

This senior role is central to ensuring the smooth, efficient, and forward-looking operation of one of the UK’s most prestigious law faculties. You will provide leadership across professional services, helping create an environment where academic excellence in teaching, research, and public engagement can thrive.

Working closely with senior academic leaders, including the Dean and Vice-Deans, you will shape operational strategy, strengthen resource planning, and lead transformational improvements across faculty services.

Key Responsibilities

As Faculty Director of Operations, you will:

  • Lead and manage all professional services and operational teams within the Faculty
    Support the Dean in ensuring financial sustainability and operational excellence
    Oversee strategic planning for resources, staffing, and service delivery
    Drive organisational change programmes to improve efficiency and impact
    Represent the Faculty in university-wide governance, committees, and strategic boards
    Contribute to UCL-wide transformation initiatives in professional services delivery
    Promote collaboration across departments and external partners

This role plays a vital part in UCL’s ongoing service transformation agenda, aligned with UK higher education efficiency expectations

About You

The ideal candidate will bring extensive leadership experience in complex organisations, ideally within higher education or similarly structured environments.

You should demonstrate:

  • Strong senior leadership and operational management experience
    Proven ability to lead large teams and manage organisational change
    Excellent financial and strategic planning capability
    Experience working across multiple stakeholders and governance structures
    The ability to prioritise competing demands in a fast-paced environment
    Strong communication and influencing skills at executive level

A postgraduate qualification (or equivalent professional experience) is preferred.
