With such a diverse portfolio, the Estates Team at Reading never has a dull day. In addition to managing and maintaining the University’s academic teaching and research buildings, we look after a large collection of Champion Trees, an expansive lake, and the university SportsPark.
We are looking for a determined, forceful, yet diplomatic individual to join our team here at the University of Reading, mostly overseeing maintenance at the Greenlands Campus. Using prior knowledge and expertise, the post holder will provide the University with an effective and timely customer-focused, professional, and efficient service in accordance with its needs, aims, objectives, and Service Level Agreements.
You will be able to manage the department’s competing needs in order to provide a 5 star service while remaining aware of a clear maintenance remit and budget constraints. You will be an independent thinker, aware, an outstanding coordinator of people, and have exceptional communication abilities.

- A suitable trade qualification, preferably in mechanical or electrical engineering (the minimum need is NVQ level 3).
Experience with planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance concerns, as well as supervising trade workers “on the tools” in a professional setting.
Experience managing and arranging health and safety for a staff, as well as knowledge of current regulatory requirements governing building fabric and services.
A pragmatic, independent thinker who approaches work with a problem-solving mindset, capable of thinking outside the box and seeking deliverable, effective solutions to challenges as they arise, which may include negotiation or diplomatic interactions to overcome competing needs.
Demonstrated customer service abilities, particularly in a similar context, and grasp of what is required from a customer-facing staff
Knowledge and experience in supervising designated specialist/framework contractors and using a dedicated software program to deliver hard/soft FM.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with individuals at all levels of the Campus and, if necessary, negotiate the competing needs of the stakeholder vs the larger organisation.
