About the Role
We are seeking an experienced researcher to provide strategic leadership for our new Research Centre for the Creative Industries (RCCI). This Centre focuses on exploring the potential of cutting-edge digital technologies across disciplines such as fine art, graphic design, illustration, animation, photography, filmmaking, gaming, visual effects, and stage & screen design. Our research also delves into areas like the metaverse, virtual/augmented/mixed reality, and immersive experiences.
RCCI benefits from strong partnerships with Nottingham’s vibrant cultural and digital creative ecosystem, collaborating with local institutions like Backlit, Nottingham Contemporary, Primary, and BEAM. These relationships help integrate research with cultural activities, promoting interdisciplinary projects, exhibitions, and public engagement, while supporting digital creativity innovation.
Additionally, RCCI works closely with the CDI Collective, which connects over 240 creative and digital businesses in Nottingham, fostering collaboration across fields such as gaming, animation, digital marketing, and immersive media. This network offers opportunities for knowledge exchange, consultancy, research opportunities, and student engagement.
You will receive the support needed to grow your international research profile, build research teams, and form strategic partnerships. As an experienced research leader, you’ll play a key role in cultivating a diverse and inclusive research culture, mentoring early-career colleagues, driving interdisciplinary collaboration, increasing research income, and enhancing the quality of research outputs.
About You
As a recognized leader in your field, you bring enthusiasm and vision to lead research growth, with a strong track record of inspiring and supporting postgraduate researchers and colleagues. With a PhD and extensive postdoctoral experience, you will have demonstrated your ability to consistently produce high-quality research, secure significant external funding, and lead or collaborate on projects that advance knowledge in your field.
You should be able to demonstrate:
- Experience in academic leadership and team management, including budgeting.
- A successful track record of recruiting and supervising postgraduate researchers and postdocs.
- Proven ability in developing research-informed teaching and curriculum design.
- Strong collaboration with industry, with impact achieved through innovation, knowledge exchange, or consultancy.
