JOB SUMMARY

 

Job Purpose

To deliver Postgraduate Taught Programmes (PGT) in the College of Medical, Veterinary, and Life Sciences (MVLS) and contribute to the reconstruction of the current service, as well as the coordination and delivery of academic content. To teach and actively contribute to postgraduate students’ knowledge, understanding, and skills at the College of MVLS. Work as part of a team to ensure academic delivery in this area and contribute as needed to the overall academic administrative activities of PGT programmes. To collaborate with academic colleagues within MVLS and throughout the University to create a vibrant and appealing PGT portfolio that provides great training and student experience at the postgraduate level.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Collaborate with program clusters to contribute to the redevelopment of programme plans, as well as the production and coordination of new academic content.

2. Assist with course formulation, development, and delivery, including tutoring help, within the programmes. Working with academic teams and coordinating with the PGT administration team as needed.

3. Encourage the development of creative and new ways to teaching and learning in accordance with the University’s Quality Enhancement Strategy, so that educational possibilities for students remain at the University’s high level. Contribute to the creation and implementation of novel teaching and learning strategies.

4. Participation in scholarship programs that promote teaching and student support activities, as well as the use of current research to all instruction. Ensuring the necessary input of expert content into courses from

Academics and external sources will be consulted if needed.

5. Maintain and expand subject knowledge through collaboration with the college’s schools.

6. Stay current on technological breakthroughs and applications, and constantly update both knowledge and abilities to enhance teaching excellence as applicable to the subject area.

7. Provide students with effective, timely, and relevant feedback to assist their learning, and ensure that suitable frameworks are established into the program to ensure a consistent approach from all contributors.

8. Assist colleagues in developing their teaching skills and assist to the continuous development and design of the present PGT programmes offered by the College of MVLS.

9. Collaborate with colleagues from different departments of the University to ensure consistent teaching, evaluation, and feedback across our PGT programmes.

10. Participate in recruitment, conversion, induction, and orientation activities as needed.

11. Perform additional PGT-related activities as assigned by the Dean of Postgraduate Teaching or delegate.

For Appointment in Grade 7:

12. Perform additional PGT-related functions, including management and leadership activities.

as required by the Dean of Postgraduate Teaching or a delegate.

13. Participate in performance and development reviews as needed, in accordance with university strategy.

14. Participate in the execution of the College Education Strategy.

Knowledge, qualifications, skills, and experience.

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1. A first degree in a topic related to MVLS.

A2. Expertise in a relevant subject area to help coordinate and develop teaching.

A3. A master’s degree in a discipline related to MVLS.

For appointment in Grade 7:

A4. A PhD in a subject related to MVLS.

Desirable:

B1. Knowledge of university academic policies and procedures.

B2. Understanding of e-learning, teaching methods, learning design, and pedagogy.

Skills

Essential:

C1. Excellent interpersonal, organisational, presenting, and communication (written and oral) abilities, as well as the ability to deal with difficulties tactfully, diplomatically, and discreetly.

C2. An enthusiastic approach to teaching and learning, including communication with pupils.

Experience

Essential:

E1. Previous experience teaching postgraduate students in disciplines similar to MVLS PGT courses.

For Appointment in Grade 7:

E2. Experience delivering postgraduate teaching and assessment in subjects relevant to MVLS PGT courses.

Desirable

F1. Experience coordinating a teaching programme.

F2. Experience designing teaching content.

F3. A record of accomplishment in published research and/or teaching in a subject-related field.

F4. Experience working in virtual learning settings.

F5. Experience teaching in an international institution or with international students.

Terms & Conditions.

The annual salary for Grade 6/7 will be £32,332 – £36,024/£39,347 – £44,263.

This position is full-time and has a set duration of up to three years.
