JOB SUMMARY
Job Purpose
Contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience within a clear and established teaching programme by carrying out a variety of teaching, assessment, and administrative duties, primarily at the undergraduate level, to improve students’ understanding of key course topics and assist them in extracting key learning points from course materials.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Participate in the planning, organisation, and delivery of undergraduate instruction.
- Deliver a variety of teaching and evaluation activities aimed at the undergraduate level.
- Participate in a variety of course administration activities within the timeframe specified, such as effective information transmission, marking, assessment, and timely constructive feedback.
- Assist with the development of appropriate instructional materials, ensuring that the content and methods of delivery fit the learning objectives.
- Contribute to the effective use of learning technology to assist and improve course delivery, organisation, feedback, and evaluation. This could include blended and/or online provision, such as the use of Moodle and other IT materials.
- Apply specialist knowledge to teaching in ways that best suit the needs of individuals and groups of learners, creating an inclusive and evidence-based approach that encourages student engagement and learning outcome achievement.
- Participate in the entire assessment process, using a range of methods and techniques, including oral assessment, and offer students with effective, timely, and relevant feedback to enhance their learning.
- Assist with the supervision of student projects, dissertations, and any practical work, providing advice on skills, methods, and approaches to aid knowledge transfer, and responding properly to a wide range of learner support/needs.
- Participate in continuing professional development programmes as needed.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Head of School.
- Contribute to the promotion of the University’s international prominence in accordance with its Strategic Plan.
Qualifications
An honours degree (SCQF Level 10) in a relevant topic or competence, as well as an understanding of teaching, learning, and assessment principles.
Currently pursuing a PhD, MPhil, or PGT in a relevant topic.
Knowledge, Skill, and Experience
Expert knowledge of the subject.
Experience delivering and assisting undergraduate or postgraduate students in an online, distance learning, or face-to-face setting.
Experience supervising, coaching, or teaching students in practical and active learning settings.
Relevant administrative experience (for example, student support, course administration, etc.)
Excellent communication and presenting skills.
The ability to use information technology and suitable software packages to facilitate teaching and learning.
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Commitment to the University’s established values and professional conduct.
Terms & Conditions.
The salary will be Grade 6, £32,332 – £36,024 per year pro rata.
This position is given on a fractional basis and for a fixed term.
