About the Role
The Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) is seeking to appoint an Associate Professor in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics who will also hold an Honorary Consultant Physician role in partnership with University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a combined clinical-academic position, offering the opportunity to contribute to patient care while shaping the future of medical education and research. Clinical work will primarily take place at the Princess Royal Hospital (Haywards Heath) and the Royal Sussex County Hospital (Brighton), with flexibility for cross-site activity.
The role is ideal for a clinician who enjoys teaching, is actively engaged in research, and is keen to influence how clinical pharmacology is taught and applied in modern healthcare.
This position reflects national priorities in safe prescribing, clinical education, and evidence-based medicine
What You’ll Be Doing
You will contribute across three key areas—clinical service, education, and research:
Clinical Practice
- Deliver consultant-level care in clinical pharmacology and general internal medicine
Support safe and effective use of medicines in patient care
Teaching & Education
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education
Design and deliver teaching in clinical pharmacology
Support curriculum development, assessment, and simulation-based learning
Engage in digital and inter-professional education initiatives
Research & Scholarship
Maintain an active research profile in clinical pharmacology or related fields
Contribute to academic outputs and research impact
Support innovation in medical education and training
Your work will align with UK standards for medicines safety, education, and healthcare delivery
About You
You are a qualified and motivated clinician with a passion for both teaching and research.
You should have:
- Dual accreditation in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (CPT) and General Internal Medicine
Experience in medical education across undergraduate and postgraduate levels
An interest in curriculum design, assessment, or innovative teaching methods
A strong or developing research portfolio
Excellent communication and collaborative skills
You will be comfortable working across both academic and clinical environments, contributing to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
