About the Role
The Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS), in partnership with University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, is seeking to appoint a Clinical Associate Professor or Professor of Oncology, depending on experience and career stage.
This is a senior clinical academic post with a strong emphasis on clinical trials leadership. The successful candidate will also hold an honorary consultant role and provide strategic and operational leadership for the Brighton and Sussex Clinical Trials Unit, working closely with the Sussex Cancer Centre and wider research partners.

What You’ll Be Doing
This is a leadership role spanning clinical care, research, education, and strategic development.
Research & Clinical Trials Leadership
- Lead a major oncology research programme with a focus on clinical trials
Direct the development and expansion of the Clinical Trials Unit
Drive growth in cancer trial portfolios across multiple tumour types
Secure research funding and support grant acquisition
Strengthen partnerships across academic and NHS organisations
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide consultant-level oncology care within University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust
Contribute to the development of oncology services across Sussex
Support optimisation and post-licensing clinical trials
Academic Leadership
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education
Support curriculum development and research-led teaching
Mentor early-career researchers and clinical academics
Provide leadership within BSMS and partner institutions
This role supports wider NHS priorities in cancer care delivery and clinical research
About You
You are an established clinical academic with expertise in oncology and a strong track record in research and leadership.
You should have:
- CCT in Medical Oncology or Clinical Oncology
Proven experience in clinical trials design, delivery, and leadership
Strong record of research outputs and funding success
Experience in academic teaching and curriculum development
Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams across clinical and academic settings
Commitment to advancing cancer research and improving patient outcomes
For professorial level, you will demonstrate sustained international impact in research, leadership, and innovation.
