About the Role

The Education and Students Portfolio oversees the full student journey, from application through to graduation and progression. The University is seeking an experienced academic leader to take on the role of Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education and Students), working closely with the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, and senior colleagues across faculties and professional services.

This role will contribute to delivering the University’s strategic priorities in education, student experience, and academic quality. The successful candidate will split their time between this leadership role (50%) and their substantive academic position, returning fully to their original post at the end of the appointment.

The postholder will help ensure alignment with national higher education priorities, including quality assurance, student outcomes, and regulatory expectations such as those outlined by the UK government and regulators

About You

You will be a senior academic with significant leadership experience in education and student-related initiatives. You should demonstrate:

  • A strong track record of improving student experience and academic outcomes
    Experience leading institution-wide projects and strategic initiatives
    In-depth understanding of challenges in UK higher education
    Knowledge of academic quality, integrity, and regulatory frameworks
    A creative and innovative approach to enhancing teaching, learning, and student engagement

Familiarity with national policies such as widening participation and student success will be important

You should also understand governance responsibilities and compliance expectations within UK universities

About the Division

The Vice-Chancellor’s Office (VCO) supports the University’s senior leadership team, including the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and Pro-Vice-Chancellors, alongside the Chief Operating Officer.

The VCO provides strategic advice, executive support, and coordination of key leadership forums, including:

It also oversees executive governance, working alongside Senate (academic governance) and Council (corporate governance) to ensure the University meets its statutory, regulatory, and strategic obligations in line with UK higher education requirements
