About the Role
The University of Sussex is seeking an experienced academic leader to take on the role of Head of the School of Law, Politics and Sociology. This is a key leadership position within the Faculty, offering the opportunity to guide a large, interdisciplinary School through its next phase of development.
The School brings together four dynamic disciplines—Law, Politics, Sociology, and Criminology—each contributing to the University’s broader academic vision and strategic priorities.
As Head of School, you will:
- Work closely with the Executive Dean and serve on the Faculty Executive Team
Provide clear academic leadership across teaching, research, and student experience
Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment for both staff and students
Oversee resource planning, staffing, and operational effectiveness
Ensure alignment between School activities and wider University strategy
This is a role for someone who enjoys shaping direction, building strong teams, and supporting academic excellence in a complex and evolving higher education landscape.
 About You
You will be a senior academic leader, typically at Professorial level, with:
- A strong track record in research, teaching, or scholarly leadership
Proven experience in leading teams and managing academic environments
The ability to inspire colleagues and encourage collaboration across disciplines
Confidence in navigating strategic challenges within higher education
A commitment to inclusive leadership and academic excellence
You should be comfortable balancing strategic oversight with day-to-day leadership responsibilities.
