About the Role:
We are looking for a Senior Psychology Technician to play a key role in supporting the delivery of Psychology teaching and research. Working closely with the Technical Team Leader, you will manage the day-to-day operations of the Psychology technical team and provide expert technical support for students, academics, and researchers. You will also assist in managing specialist equipment and workspaces, ensuring that resources are available and maintained to support academic delivery and student learning in Psychology.

We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting the development of Psychology and empowering students to reach their full potential. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience, and skills:
Qualifications & Experience:
A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience in a technical role in Higher Education.
Experience providing technical support in Psychology within a Higher Education setting.
Familiarity with survey and experimental software used in teaching and research.
Expertise in providing classroom support and demonstrations for experimental psychology, including working with BIOPAC systems, Cold Pressor, Portapres, and eye-tracking hardware/software.
Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with students, staff, and researchers.
Skills & Abilities:
Highly organised with excellent time management and prioritisation skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive, change-oriented approach.
Demonstrated experience in Health and Safety management.
Ability to manage and maintain complex technical systems and equipment.
Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse groups, including undergraduates, postgraduates, and academic staff.
Desirable:
A postgraduate qualification (e.g., Master’s or PhD).
Associate Fellowship of Advance HE (AFHEA).
Experience in team leadership or people management.
Principal Responsibilities:
Assist the Technical Team Leader with the planning, development, and management of technical support for Psychology.
Serve as the main point of contact between the technical team and academic/research staff, escalating issues as needed.
Manage purchase orders, monitor deliveries, and handle invoicing for teaching and research equipment.
Contribute to funding bids for external equipment purchases.
Ensure all Health and Safety documentation and processes are followed for the Psychology department.
Oversee the maintenance of equipment and spaces, ensuring compliance with university policies.
Maintain accurate equipment inventories and ensure they are regularly updated.
Participate in departmental and school groups, committees, and external professional networks.
Stay current with sector developments, trends, and best practices in technical support for Psychology.
