Job Description
Job Summary
The Centre for Mechanochemical Cell Biology at Warwick Medical School invites applications for a Research Fellow position in the laboratory of Professor Satyajit Mayor. This role offers a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with Professor Robert Ernst (Membrane Cell Biology and Biophysics, University of Saarland) and the Molecular Tools and Imaging (MTI) team at HHMI Janelia Research Institute (HHMI-JRI). The project aims to define and develop molecular sensors for studying local membrane properties, spanning biophysical and mechanical characteristics.
About the Research Groups
The Mayor Laboratory is a leading research group focused on understanding the fundamental cellular mechanisms that regulate the chemical, biophysical, and mechanical properties of the cell membrane.
The Ernst Laboratory specializes in investigating biophysical mechanisms that influence membrane protein structure and function, particularly in relation to membrane property read-outs.
The MTI team at HHMI-JRI is at the cutting edge of developing molecular tools for advanced imaging techniques.
Together, these groups explore the intricate interactions between proteins and lipids in both health and disease, employing an interdisciplinary approach that combines cell biology, biochemistry, synthetic biology, imaging, and biophysics.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with:
- A PhD (or near completion) in cell biology, biophysics, or a related discipline.
- Expertise in molecular cell biology and a keen interest in membrane biophysics.
- A strong research background, with published work on molecular sensor design for monitoring cellular properties or single-molecule biophysics in living cells.
- A passion for interdisciplinary research at the intersection of biology and physics.
If you are in the final stages of your PhD but have not yet received formal confirmation of your degree, you may be offered a position as a Research Assistant at the top of Level 5 of the University’s grade structure. Upon successful completion of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow at Level 6.
Application Process
- Closing Date: Thursday, 27 February 2025, at 11:55 PM.
