About the Role
This is a key operational leadership role within the University of Sussex Business School, focused on ensuring that the School runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis while also driving forward important operational projects.
You’ll work closely with senior academic and professional services leaders, acting as a central point for coordinating activities across the School. From managing logistics and resources to improving internal processes, your work will directly support the School’s strategic goals.
The role also offers scope for creativity—you’ll be encouraged to identify inefficiencies, introduce smarter ways of working, and enhance how services are delivered across the School, including events and operational planning.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
In this varied role, you will:
- Oversee daily operational activities to ensure efficiency and continuity
Manage and deliver complex operational and administrative projects
Coordinate across HR, finance, estates, and infrastructure functions
Support planning and delivery of events and School-wide initiatives
Build strong working relationships with stakeholders at all levels
Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and service delivery
You’ll play a central role in ensuring that both staff and students experience a well-organised and supportive environment.
About You
You’re someone who combines organisation with initiative. You understand how institutions operate and can balance competing demands without losing sight of the bigger picture.
You should bring:
- Experience across areas such as HR, finance, health & safety, or facilities
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
A proven ability to deliver high-quality services, ideally in a higher education setting
Confidence in managing multiple priorities and deadlines
A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
Knowledge of UK workplace regulations and operational standards will be beneficial
