This is an excellent opportunity for a Registered Nurse or soon-to-qualify student nurse to join a well-established Liaison Psychiatry Service. You’ll be part of a service that focuses on compassionate, patient-first care, helping individuals with complex mental health needs within acute hospital settings.
 About the Service
The Tees-wide Liaison Psychiatry team provides mental health assessment, advice, and intervention for patients attending general hospitals across Teesside. The service supports:
North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust
South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
The team works across all adult age groups (18+) and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ensuring patients receive timely mental health support when they need it most.
 Your Role & Responsibilities
As a Liaison Nurse, you will:
- Carry out mental health assessments within acute hospital settings
Contribute to diagnosis, care planning, and risk management
Provide advice and support to hospital staff on mental health care
Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team (MDT) including psychiatrists, psychologists, and senior nurses
Support patients and families during times of crisis or vulnerability
Deliver care that is person-centred, safe, and recovery-focused
You will also have the opportunity to develop expertise in specialist liaison areas over time.
 Working Pattern
- 24/7 service – includes shift work, nights, weekends, and bank holidays
Flexible working within a supportive rota system
 Team & Support
You will be supported by a highly skilled team, including:
- Band 6 Nurses
Consultant Psychiatrists
Psychologists
Associate Nurse Consultants
Newly qualified nurses will benefit from a structured preceptorship programme, helping you build confidence and competence in your role.
 Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) (or due within 3 months)
Willingness to become a Practice Assessor/Mentor
Commitment to ongoing professional development
Experience
- Experience supporting individuals with mental health needs or learning disabilities
Working within a person-centred care framework
Experience collaborating with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of key legislation
Knowledge of safeguarding practices
Skills in risk assessment and crisis management
Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
Confidence working under pressure while maintaining professionalism
 International Applicants
This role may qualify for the UK Skilled Worker visa, subject to eligibility criteria.
