Job Title: Lecturer in Philosophy of Technology
Salary: £49,250 – £60,321 year

Contract: Full-time, permanent (35 hours per week).

The University of Edinburgh’s School of Philosophy, Psychology, and Language Sciences seeks a Lecturer in Philosophy of Technology. This is a full-time, permanent job in the Department of Philosophy, with primary responsibility for the Centre for Technomoral Futures at the Edinburgh Futures Institute.

The Opportunity

Area of Specialisation (AOS): Philosophy of Technology.

Area of Competence: Open

We welcome applications from individuals working on a variety of themes in technological philosophy, such as the ethics and politics of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. The selected applicant will contribute to the department’s developing expertise in this area while simultaneously doing interdisciplinary research at the Centre for Technomoral Futures.

Your Skills and Attributes for Success

● A PhD or equivalent qualification in Philosophy (or a related discipline) with a proven track record of innovative research.

● Exhibited proficiency in research, including publications in high-quality venues appropriate for career stage.

● Experience and dedication to teaching, shown ability to engage undergraduate and postgraduate students.

● Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Interview Process

During a two-day on-campus interview, shortlisted candidates will be asked to deliver two presentations: one on their research and one on their teaching, to the Philosophy Department and the Centre for Technomoral Futures. CVs will be distributed to workers attending the presentations unless otherwise requested.
