Job Purpose
To contribute to and lead as needed in the delivery of an excellent student experience by delivering, organising, and reviewing teaching, assessment, and administration processes associated with undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as to conduct scholarship to improve learning and teaching in the School of Chemistry.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. Make a significant contribution to the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes by delivering and directing a variety of teaching, supervision, and assessment activities.
2. Complete course administration within the timeframe specified, ensuring efficient delivery of information, including assessment requirements and criteria, as well as timely and constructive feedback on assessments.
3. As needed, take the lead in the ongoing creation and design of the curriculum, ensuring that it promotes a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and evaluation.
4. Create effective techniques to using learning technologies to support and improve course delivery, organisation, feedback, and evaluation. This could include hybrid and/or online provision.
5. Ensure an inclusive and evidence-based approach to facilitating learning in a variety of face-to-face and potentially online delivery modes, such as tutorials, lectures, and problem-based learning, that encourages student engagement and achievement of learning outcomes.
6. Build strong working connections with students and, in collaboration with relevant student services teams, respond properly to a wide range of learning approaches and learner requirements.
7. Create a growing portfolio of scholarship outputs and activities by doing methodologically robust, educationally relevant research on student learning and disseminating data to improve your own and others’ teaching methods. Attend and participate in relevant seminars and conferences to promote research-based teaching and scholarship in your discipline and/or professional field.
8. Build ties with external stakeholders to promote information exchange, public understanding, and suitable kinds of outreach, such as increasing access.
9. Take part in local and potentially international student recruiting events [e.g., open days], orientation and induction, and other School and University efforts such as student transitions, employability, and student mobility as needed.
10. Participate in continuing professional development programs as needed.
11. Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Knowledge, qualifications, skills, and experience.
Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 [PhD] or equivalent in relevant discipline, with a growing reputation for scholarship in the subject area.
A2 Sufficient breadth and/or depth of knowledge in Organic Chemistry, as well as unique ways to online teaching, learning, and evaluation, as well as teaching methods and techniques for working in the subject area.
A3 Thorough understanding and application of policy, practice, and processes, as well as broader University/sector/external [e.g., commercial] awareness.
A4 Current knowledge and specialist understanding of the topic, as well as the capacity to pique students’ interest and enthusiasm in order to motivate learning and give pastoral care in the subject area.
Skills
Essential
C1 Ability to communicate specialist or highly technical topics effectively both orally and in writing at an activity-appropriate level.
C2 Ability to organise and carry out job activities in accordance with professional guidelines or organisational policy, while exercising initiative and independent judgement.
Experience
Essential
E1 Experience establishing and demonstrating teaching and research methodologies, as well as designing models, approaches, procedures, criticisms, and methods.
Desirable
F1 Relevant teaching / demonstration experience with organic synthesis, fluorophores, and organic materials.
Terms & Conditions.
The annual salary for Grade 7 will range between £40,247 and £45,163.
This position is full-time (35 hours per week) and has a fixed term of up to four years.
