Salary: Grade 9, £56,921 to £65,814 per annum (pro rata for part-time)

About the Role
The University of Sussex is seeking a Capital Projects Operations Manager to lead the operational planning and delivery of estate improvement projects across its campus. Reporting to the Head of Capital Projects within the Estates and Facilities Management Department, you will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of the capital programme, with a focus on maintaining health and safety standards, efficient campus logistics, value for money, quality, sustainability, and compliance with statutory building and infrastructure requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the operational delivery of capital projects, ensuring alignment with the University’s strategic and operational goals.
Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of large-scale estate improvement projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and in line with sustainability and quality standards.
Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery, supporting cross-functional teamwork across the University.
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, health & safety standards, and statutory requirements.
Manage project logistics, including campus disruption and effective communication with University departments and stakeholders.
Provide leadership and direction within the Capital Projects team, driving efficiency and operational excellence in project delivery.
About You:
We are looking for a highly experienced professional with a strong background in Project and Commercial Management within the construction industry, specifically with a track record of managing large-scale capital projects with budgets exceeding £50 million.
You should bring:
Proven experience in delivering complex capital projects within a higher education or similar sector.
A collaborative approach to working with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and guide project teams.
Extensive knowledge of construction processes, building regulations, sustainability standards, and health & safety practices.
Commercial acumen, with the ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.

The Estates, Facilities and Commercial Services Division is a dynamic and fast-evolving department, responsible for enhancing the physical environment of the University and providing exceptional services for students, staff, and visitors.
