As we recruit on a rolling basis, we urge applying as soon as possible.

Using technology to effect real, meaningful change. That is one positive thing.

At Capital One, we’re on a mission to improve credit, one good thing at a time. You might consider us a credit card firm. But the truth is that we’re just as much a technology company. And we want to make a difference for our customers, coworkers, and the community.

One of the positive outcomes of making borrowing easier for our customers is that Capital One is a great place to start your career. When you join us, you can expect to be given early responsibility as you work in collaborative teams on significant projects. We have an excellent track record of hiring graduates and helping them attain their full potential. Just look at our CEO, Lucy Hagues. She began as a graduate and now runs the UK business. And this is just one of many success stories.

We are committed to building teams that reflect our clients and the communities we serve. We welcome applications from everyone, but we especially want to hear from women, LGBTQ+ applicants, and ethnic minorities.

Technology at Capital One.

Every day, our tech teams challenge the status quo and impact millions of customers. And it is what distinguishes a career in technology here from anywhere else. During the two-year Graduate programme, you will be able to rotate among three different teams, providing you with a broad and varied experience that will allow you to hone your skills and talents before deciding which area you want to pursue further.

Your rotations will be with our core technical teams. You could be responsible for improving the user experience and journeys throughout our applications and website, as well as developing backend APIs alongside our Services teams. You may be working with the Data teams, who guarantee that all of the information we hold is safe and secure while still being accessible at a moments notice. Or with the Cloud Productivity Engineering teams as we complete our migration to AWS. After your first rotation, you may be able to rotate outside of technology into another business field if you want to explore other areas.

Being a Capital One graduate requires more than just technical skills. Personal development opportunities abound. Whether you view yourself as a future leader, a subject matter expert, or somewhere in the between, you’ll have a manager, mentor, and buddy to help you build out the career path that’s right for you.

What You’ll Need

Coding abilities (in any language) are necessary, but a computer science background is not required. We’ve hired grads in psychology, maths, and a variety of other fields. Because you’ll be working across numerous channels, we’ll be looking for the adaptability and learning ability required to understand a wide range of tools and technologies.

We will consider not just your existing coding skills, but also your potential and strengths. We appreciate that this may be your first employment or that you have no prior experience in a professional technology environment. And that’s fine; we don’t expect you to be a skilled coder, just passionate and quick to learn.

The Recruitment Process

To ensure a flexible and accessible approach, each stage will be handled digitally. You’ll also have a dedicated recruiter who will guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.

Step 1: If you fulfil the eligibility criteria, you will be provided online tests to complete, including coding and behavioural assessments.

Step 2: You will be asked to a one-way video interview to discuss your motivation for the role and demonstrate your soft skills.

Step 3: Meet with two members of our tech team digitally for an assessment day that includes a pair programming exercise, a presentation, and a strengths-based interview.

Step 4: During the final interview, you will meet virtually with one of our Senior Software Managers. If successful, you will be offered a position on our Tech team.

What is in it for you?

  • Exciting (and diversified) chances for professional development
  • Excellent learning and development through our Capital One Develop UK training programs (and approved external suppliers).
  • Core perks include a pension system, bonus, considerable vacation time, and private medical insurance.
  • Flexible benefits include season-ticket loans, a cycle-to-work scheme, and increased parental leave.
  • Open-plan offices and accessible facilities meant to assist and inspire you, such as a fully serviced gym, subsidised restaurant, mindfulness and games rooms.
  • Plenty of volunteer opportunities to give back to the community through our corporate social responsibility programs.
  • Our GradComm team runs regular social events, including an annual company-wide summer festival.
  • You may even help shape how our early career programs look for future graduates by joining one of our working groups or becoming a buddy/mentor yourself.

Where and how will you work?

This is a permanent role located in either our Nottingham or London offices.

We have a hybrid working arrangement, which means you’ll be in our office three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and can work from home Monday and Friday. Many of our associates have flexible working arrangements, and we’d be happy to speak about one that works for you.

What You Should Know About How We Recruit

We take pleasure in employing the finest, not the same folks. Creating diverse and inclusive teams is the correct (and smart) thing to do. We want to collaborate with excellent talent, no matter who you are, how you look, or where you’re from. We understand that it is more about what you do than what you say. That is why we ensure that our recruitment process is fair and accessible.

We also work with organisations like the Women in Finance and Race At Work Charters, Stonewall, and upReach to find people from all walks of life and help them succeed with us. We have a wide array of internal networks and support groups you could participate in, to name a few:

  • REACH, the Race Equality and Culture Heritage group, aims to increase representation, retention, and participation among associates from minority ethnicities and allies.
  • OutFront offers LGBTQ+ assistance for all associates.
  • Mind Your Mind provides help and promotes positive mental health for everybody.
  • Women in Tech promotes an inclusive atmosphere in technology.
  • EmpowHER is a network of female colleagues and allies dedicated to fostering future leaders, particularly among female talent in our sector.
  • Enabled is a group dedicated to improving the working lives of individuals with disabilities and neurodiversity.
  • GreenTeam is passionate about sustainability and aims to enhance Capital One UK’s environmental effect.

Capital One is committed to promoting workplace diversity.
