JOB SUMMARY

 

The School of Life Sciences is looking for a Senior Workshop Technician (Instrument Repairs & Maintenance) to join a small but crucial team that performs critical repairs and maintenance services to the school’s laboratory and controlled environment equipment. You will be responsible for supporting equipment that is critical to our world-class research on a variety of major issues in biomedical, environmental, systems, plant and agricultural, and biosciences.

Although this position is largely situated at the Gibbet Hill Campus, occasional travel to the local site in Wellesbourne and the partner CSRL campus at Walsgrave Hospital may be required; however, this will be done in company cars and as part of a planned routine. On-site, the position will typically assist work at the two co-located Schools of Life Sciences and Warwick Medical School.

About You

Your primary responsibilities will include diagnosing faults and repairing equipment, as well as assisting with the creation and modification of lab research and instructional equipment. The ability to plan your workload, communicate and liaise with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders, keep correct records and job details, and give good customer service are all essential abilities for this career.

You must have an NVQ Level 4/HNC/HND or equivalent in one of the following areas: electronics, electro/mechanical/mechatronics; or be educated to A Level standard or equivalent in Maths and/or a relevant subject; or have relevant experience at a high level in a similar work setting.

Candidates with a broad variety of transferable abilities and a history in similar practical fields (e.g., field service engineers/electromechanical equipment repairs) will be considered based on their prior relevant experience. In-house training on the specifics of the equipment and position will be offered and can be expanded over time.
