Start Date: September 23, 2024

Base locations include Inverness, Perth, Glasgow, or Aberdeen.

Salary: £33,000 annually with additional perks for family, finances, and wellbeing.

Degree programmes include hydrographic surveying and geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, nautical college, subsea engineering, construction management, and naval architecture.

What is the role?

Through our Marine & Engineering Graduate Programmes, you will follow a specialised path, working with experts in their field and gaining exposure to various disciplines within our Transmission business for the duration of your programme, which can last between 12 months and two years. The goal of our specialist pathway is to provide experiences that will lead to a permanent position with SSE.

Our Transmission Marine and Engineering teams play critical roles in the development and delivery of transmission link projects that connect each of Scotland’s major island groups – Shetland, Orkney and the Western Isles – as well as ‘bootstrap’ connections between the North and South of the UK mainland, such as the East Coast High-voltage direct current (HVDC) projects.

The Marine Function was established to provide marine operations and construction expertise to the business by developing the necessary disciplines and centralising multidisciplinary technical expertise from various departments within SSEN Transmission, as well as supporting and overseeing all marine-based activity across a diverse portfolio of projects. The Marine Function’s expertise includes safety, construction, installation engineering, marine management, surveys (geophysical and geotechnical), and consenting. We serve as marine subject matter specialists throughout the Transmission business and are establishing ourselves as an experienced offshore transmission operator in the Energy Sector.

Throughout the training, you will be supported by a business mentor and buddy who will guide and encourage you in reaching your full potential.

We have lofty net zero ambitions, and our business is expanding to support our approach. We are searching for graduates who can offer new ideas, talents, and creative thinking to deliver unique solutions that will help us reach net zero. This is an exciting time to join SSE; you have the ability to make a difference and help us develop a better, more sustainable world of energy for you, your family, the community you live in, and future generations.

What do I need?

The minimum requirement is a 2:2 BEng in one of the following disciplines: hydrographic surveying and geotechnical, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, nautical college, subsea engineering, construction management, or naval architecture.

We’d like you to have some hands-on job or project experience that displays your enthusiasm for the energy sector, as well as shown teamwork skills. You’ll also be comfortable working to and exceeding individual targets, as well as taking initiative to tackle problems, and you should have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long-term career with us.

What is in it for you?

An exceptional package includes 34 days of vacation, increased maternity/paternity leave, cheap healthcare, salary sacrifice automobile leasing, and much more; read our entire benefits package on our careers website.

As an equal opportunity employer, we value diversity and strive to provide an inclusive environment for all employees. We strongly encourage applicants with all protected characteristics and commit to making all reasonable adaptations necessary during the application, assessment, and joining SSE. To learn more, search for “Inclusion & Diversity at SSE.”

Next Steps?

Every application should be submitted online.

If you have any working differently requirements or changes that you may require throughout the recruitment and selection process, please contact graduates@sse.com via email, or you are welcome to request a call if you want to discuss them over the phone.

Before beginning employment with SSE, you must pass our pre-employment screening process, which includes a basic criminal record and credit check.

SSE accepts applications from all countries. Please keep in mind that any successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a valid right to work before beginning employment. If sponsorship is required, we may be able to provide assistance. Sponsoring international candidates is a complex process with several steps that must be followed properly in order to comply with immigration laws. We review inquiries on a case-by-case basis. Please keep in mind that UKVI, rather than SSE, makes the final decision on visa applications.
