Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Are you aware and passionate about higher education and the benefits it may provide? Do you wish to inspire young people to realise their full potential? Join the University of Reading’s UK Recruitment and Outreach team to support prospective students and candidates, particularly those from underrepresented groups in higher education.

In this role, you will have three key areas of activity: As part of our larger school information advice and guidance programme, you will be in charge of delivering strategic, regionally based outreach, recruitment, and conversion (post-application) activity in Berkshire, with a focus on identifying, targeting, and working with prospective students and applicants from underrepresented groups.

Second, you will be in charge of project-based activities to help Year 13 pupils transition (Access Reading). These initiatives include building and monitoring online transition and study skills materials, as well as hosting an in-person event for students with relevant offers.

Third, collaborating with the Henley Business School to assist their widening participation and undergraduate recruitment goals by conducting subject-specific activities such as presentations in schools/colleges, subject-specific tours to campus, and taster days.

The function entails working autonomously, strategically, and aggressively; managing projects and resources; and planning, developing, and delivering activities and events. You will also be personally representing the University to prospective students, parents, and teachers, as well as developing and maintaining strong internal and external stakeholder networks, notably with schools and colleges.

Your initiatives will directly increase applications and acceptances to the University of Reading from this area, notably from underrepresented groups.

You’ll have:

  • A first-degree or equivalent
  • Experience working in a post-16 setting in a UK student recruiting or outreach job, or something comparable
  • Understanding the broadening participation agenda in a higher education setting
  • Ability to work independently and meet targets with minimal supervision.
  • Experience organising events
  • Experience working with external stakeholders and creating partnerships.

The post will be situated in Reading, but there may be some travel to UCAS or third-party events.
