Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The CTR has a well-established and extremely successful initiative for funding and mentoring Next Generation Fellowships. Next Generation Fellowships are designed to advance the careers of exceptional individuals conducting innovative research within the Centre’s scope. The Fellowships are extremely adaptable to meet individual needs and allow the postholder to grow as an independent researcher in a supportive and stimulating setting. Holders are expected and encouraged to apply for Research Fellowship/Career Development Awards from research councils or other donors, as well as faculty positions, during their tenure. The Next Generation Fellowships can lead to a long and successful career in placental and reproductive biology. Many of our Next Generation Fellows have used the opportunity to advance to independent group leader positions. https://www.trophoblast.cam.ac.uk/next-generation-fellow-alumni. The CTR is looking for a Next Generation Fellow to complement and synergise with our existing research activities. We accept applications from a wide variety of research related to our Grand Challenges: https://www.trophoblast.cam.ac.uk/about-us/objectives.
What to expect.
Next Generation Fellows will be supervised in developing and establishing a separate research programme to complement the work of other groups within the Centre for Trophoblast Research. Next Generation Fellows will be expected to fully participate in the activities of the CTR and their host department. They will supervise MPhil/MA, summer, and/or undergraduate students. They may be a co-applicant on research grant applications to recruit, train, and supervise postdoctoral researchers, research assistants, technical staff, and PhD students, depending on the outcome of external financing. The position holder will be required to establish a solid track record of producing high-impact articles and disseminating the outcomes of their work in any manner that appears suitable and successful (for example, through conferences and seminars). They will be in charge of ensuring compliance with all applicable laws (Home Office, HTA, and HFEA).
QualificationsCandidates should have a PhD and a strong publishing record in academic publications or equivalent.
EligibilityOur goal with this fellowship is to launch the careers of the next generation of faculty in trophoblast biology. - MRC’s Career Development Fellowship
- Wellcome Career Development Award.
- The Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship
- ERC Starting Grant,
- or any other foreign equivalent prize.
Normally, this would imply that you have a PhD at the time of application and have completed no more than one significant term of research (e.g., postdoctoral placement/fellowship), with the exception of career gaps due to illness or parental leave. To be deemed eligible for the scheme, applicants must be able to present a clear reasoning for how the Next Generation Fellowship would help them achieve their long-term career goals.
We accept submissions from candidates of all countries for the Next Generation Fellowship and will support international visas. Next Generation Fellows who require a visa to work in the UK are eligible to apply for a Global Talent Visa through the fast-track endorsement process. Additional visa categories are available.
