Are you a registered nurse with at least 12 months’ experience who wants to try something new? Are you eager to gain new skills? Are you driven to give high-quality service? Then an opportunity to join the Centre for Clinical Haematology (CCH) may be right for you.

CCH is a busy facility that provides treatment and assistance to adults, teens, and young adults with a variety of haematological diseases. We provide Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) and supportive therapies. We also oversee an ambulatory stem cell transplant and chemotherapy program.

The unit consists of 14 day case chairs, two trolleys, and a bustling outpatient clinic. You will be expected to work shifts Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you have SACT, cannulation, phlebotomy, or central lines abilities, that is an advantage; but, if you do not, you must be enthusiastic and dexterous enough to learn these skills, and training/support will be provided. You will be assisted in this position by the Unit Manager and team, the Matron for Haematology, and the SACT trainees.

Main responsibilities, tasks, and abilities required

The primary responsibilities are to supervise and care for patients undergoing systemic anti-cancer therapies and supportive treatments. Key Responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have great communication skills and will be in charge of assessing patients for chemotherapy to verify their physical state and blood parameters are adequate in order to get the prescribed medication. Administration and disposal of intravenous chemotherapy in accordance with Trust and national guidelines. Work closely and effectively with all MDT members. Carry out stem cell transplant treatments. Cannulation, phlebotomy, or central line abilities are desirable but not necessary; you will be encouraged in developing these skills.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC Register.
  • Evidence and the capacity to revalidate as required by the NMC.

Experience

Essential

  • Previously or recently worked in an acute secondary NHS care setting.
  • Evidence of successes and career advancement in the current position, as well as ongoing professional development and competency.
  • Experience working alone and as part of a team in a health-care setting, delegating tasks to others and supervising others.
  • Understanding and Knowledge of the NMC Code of Conduct
  • Understanding preceptorship and work-based learning, as well as skill and knowledge assimilation.
  • Understanding the present relevant NHS policy background.
  • Understanding and experience with the principles of safeguarding and mental capacity.
  • Awareness of health and safety issues.

Desirable

  • Previous haematology experience.
  • Previous day’s unit experience
