Detailed job description and primary responsibilities

To carry out all nursing procedures in line with Trust policies, and to ensure that all staff understand and follow these procedures and policies, within the scope of their own management responsibilities.

Communicate with patients and significant others with empathy and reassurance about assessment, care, and treatment. To keep accurate and thorough nursing records, use proper documentation.

To facilitate early discharge planning by ensuring that adequate arrangements for patients leaving the hospital are in place, making referrals and providing information to community agencies as needed, in order to enable a safe and timely exit.

Ensure that pharmaceuticals are safely stored and administered in accordance with The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust’s policies and procedures, including intravenous medication where appropriate. Supervise junior or unqualified staff in all facets of care.

Ensure that workers have the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to carry out the care allocated to them.

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to foster effective communication and a multidisciplinary approach to patient treatment.

Participate in the audit of the Essence of Care benchmarking principles, and implement action plans as needed.

To ensure that departmental coordinators are up to date on clinical advancements. Implement safe working procedures as outlined in the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Collaborate with Lead and Senior Nurses, Bed Managers, Admissions, and Infection Control to ensure optimal bed utilisation.
