JOB DESCRIPTION

Astroscale is looking for a dedicated Bid Manager for our UK office in the Harwell Space Cluster. This is an amazing and one-of-a-kind opportunity to join a vibrant firm that is committed to making a positive contribution to the rising problem of orbital debris, which threatens humanity’s continued use of space.

The chosen candidate will report to Astroscale UK’s Head of Business Development and Product Strategy, design bids and win funding, and assist in a variety of BD-related areas such as proposal production for institutional or commercial sales.

Astroscale’s work atmosphere is fast-paced and dynamic, with numerous opportunities to learn and contribute. This position is appropriate for someone with previous expertise in bids or sales, preferably in the spacecraft industry or complicated engineering services or products, who wants to advance their career in space business development.

Responsibilities

  • Take on the task of overseeing and coordinating whole bids, or parts of bids as needed, from call opening to bid submission.
  • Control the total production of bid quantities to assure delivery on time.
  • Draw on other appropriate Astroscale teams (as needed for larger bids), such as the projects, engineering, procurement and contractual, finance, and business analysis teams.
  • Ensure bid execution in accordance with the bid PA/QA philosophy; perform bid/no bid and later stage bid reviews (e.g., gold/red team) as needed; and conduct win-theme analysis.
  • Control bid finances by collaborating with the finance team and external partners on a multi-partner/consortium-style financial assignment and control.
  • Coordinating partner inputs (scope, money) with the procurement team as needed for multi-partner / consortium bids.
  • Contribute to account management efforts with UKSA (UK Space Agency).

Essential Skills

  • 2 – 4 years of experience working in bid management in the space business, with a preference for individuals who have completed the entire lifecycle of UKSA or ESA bids or have sales expertise with products or services.
  • Excellent understanding of the UKSA ecosystem, UKSA member states, and other member state conversations and negotiations.
  • Significant experience working on space initiatives for or with the United Kingdom Space Agency.
  • An outstanding “sales / marketing style” in bid production that may be utilised to convey the company’s selling points while also constructing competitive but deliverable bids and commercial proposals.
  • Strong commercial awareness.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and willing to take the initiative.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and written/verbal communication abilities, applicable to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A thorough understanding of the space industry and ecosystem.
  • Passionate about space, having expertise in the space environment and debris.

Desirable Skills

  • Postgraduate degree (in engineering, if possible).
  • Experience bidding in the following technical areas: in-orbit servicing, active debris removal, and space situational awareness. Space segment bid capacity is desirable, while ground segment bid capacity is useful but not required.
  • Experience working on bids of various sizes, ranging from 1 to 2 pager expressions of interest to minor R&D bids to bigger mission / service proposals of hundreds of pages.
  • Experience providing and compiling important volumes for bids, including technical, commercial, financial, implementation, management, contractual, and risk.
  • Understanding of project management for space programmes, or previous expertise in this area.
  • Experience working in a satellite business development or sales setting.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with a highly talented, varied, and dynamic international team using cutting-edge technology.
  • Flexible working arrangements around core hours in a welcoming and supportive atmosphere
  • Hybrid working is available (based on individual position requirements).
  • 25 days holiday (growing yearly up to a maximum of 28 days) plus 8 days bank holiday
  • Life insurance and long-term ill pay.
  • Private healthcare (a taxable benefit).
  • Relocation Allowance
  • Visa sponsorship for employees is considered.
  • New modern office and cleanroom facilities.
  • Regular social events

Location
